An Active Weekend

Well, now that Sas and B are on the mend we thought .... "Why slow down?"  So we didn't .  On Saturday we had the pleasure of going to the Winter "Carnival" at the Eagle Farm Racecourse here in Brisbane.  This event is the kick off to the winter racing season.  The horse races can be a very fashionable event.  You may remember Stace attending a day at races last year with a group of Pandemic ladies.  To me it feels like you have stepped back in time a little.  I can't help but associate it with a scene from a Jane Austin novel.  One in which the upper class British nobility are gathered for a "civilized" day at the the hunt or races or what have you.  However there is one glaring difference in that there really is no feeling of superiority from anyone.  In true Aussie fashion it is a reason to dress very smartly and be social (and of course have a few drinks).

Some classy ladies!

As part of the festivities there was a competition called "Fashions on the Field".   Which was a millinery event.  Millinery is the business of designing , making, or selling hats, dresses and hat trim to clients.  Stacey's friend Felicity (who is an amateur fashion designer) was entering this event and asked Stace, a few weeks back, if she would model her clothing in the event.  Stace was initially a little nervous but agreed in the end.  There were two parts to "Fashions on the Field".  The first being best outfit and the other was for best hat only.   Felicity was only planning on entering the hat competition but ended up making two complete outfits.  Stace modeled one (in the hat competition) and Felicity's sister modeled the other (in the full outfit competition).  It was a lot of fun.  Stace did fantastic.  Sadly Felicity and Stace didn't place in the hat competition but Felicity did score a first runner up in the other.

The hat competition.  (click on the picture to get a close up...women do love to get dressed up.  Right down to the shoes and bag.)

Looking good!
This was the winning entry for the hat competition. It was quite impressive.
Stace and Felicity's sister.  Felicity only started taking the her hat course about 9 weeks ago so well done.

Stacey wanted me to post some pictures of the other ladies in the contest. So I did.  (Her favorite is the green and orange outfit.  And she didn't make it to the Top 10.)

I took the kids so that they could see their Supermodel mommy at work.  I really hope it doesn't go to her head.   I don't want her becoming bulimic and getting addicted to blow.... running away with a fashion photographer or something.  We may have opened Pandora's box now.  First it was being influenced by Sex and the City ... now she has her own fashion designer to make her exclusive originals.

Daddy's little girl... For now! Breagha loves a good cuddle.

Stacey and I have been doing some running of late to battle the effects of older age and desk job atrophy.  Well today was the first day that we were able to run together.  We registered ourselves to run in the Red Run Classic.  It was a 10km fun run here in New Farm organized by the Australian Haemophilia Foundation.  So we rose at the break of dawn to dawn our running clothes (... did you see how I did that?  I used "dawn" as both a noun and verb in one sentence... not the best use but clever none the less, no?), locked the kids in a closet with a bowl of water and a box of raisins, and headed for the race.  Ok so we didn't lock the kids in a closet... Clo was very gracious and offered to look after the kids while we ran.  Thank You soooo much Clo!!!  We know you had to get up very early on your Sunday and we really appreciate it.

Getting ready to head out.

So that, in a nutshell, was our weekend.

Cheers!
